How to Remove Red Wine Stains from White Carpet (I Tested 5 Methods)

I spilled a whole glass of red wine on my white carpet last month, and I thought I was going to have to replace the whole thing. I tried every method I could find online, and some worked great while others made the stain worse. In this guide, I'll show you the only method that actually works to remove red wine stains from white carpet.

The Only Method That Actually Works

This method removed 100% of the red wine stain from my carpet, and it only uses items you probably already have at home.

  1. Blot up as much wine as possible with a clean white towel. Do not rub! Rubbing will spread the stain.
  2. Pour a small amount of club soda on the stain.
  3. Blot again with a clean towel until the stain is gone.
  4. If any stain remains, mix 1 tablespoon of dish soap with 2 cups of cold water.
  5. Apply the solution to the stain and blot until it's gone.
  6. Rinse with cold water and blot dry.

Methods That Did NOT Work

I tried all of these methods, and they either didn't work or made the stain worse: - White vinegar and baking soda - Hydrogen peroxide (it bleached my carpet!) - Salt - Wine Away stain remover

Pro Tip

The most important thing is to act fast. The longer the wine sits on the carpet, the harder it will be to remove. Try to start cleaning within 10 minutes of spilling.
