How to Turn Off Flash on iPhone 16 Camera (And When to Use It)

The flash on the iPhone 16 camera is terrible. It makes everyone look like a ghost, and it washes out all the colors. I almost never use the flash on my iPhone, and my photos look so much better because of it. In this guide, I'll show you how to turn off the flash on iPhone 16 camera.

How to Turn Off Flash

Open the Camera app
Tap the flash icon in the top left corner of the screen
Select "Off"

You can also turn off the flash by swiping up on the camera screen and tapping the flash icon.

Flash Settings Explained

Off: Flash is always off
On: Flash is always on
Auto: Flash will turn on automatically in low light

I recommend keeping the flash set to "Off" at all times. Auto flash will turn on when you don't want it to, and it will ruin your photos.

When to Use the Flash

The only time I ever use the flash is when I'm taking a photo in complete darkness and I have no other option. Even then, the photo will probably look bad, but it's better than nothing.

Use natural light from a window
Turn on the lights in the room
Use Night mode
Use a tripod to keep your phone steady

Pro Tip

You can also use the flashlight as a flash. Just open Control Center and tap the flashlight button. This gives you more control over the brightness than the camera flash.
