How to Ripen Avocados Fast (Overnight Method)
There's nothing worse than craving guacamole, only to find that all your avocados are rock hard. I've been there so many times. I tried every method to ripen avocados fast, and one method works better than all the others. In this guide, I'll show you how to ripen avocados overnight.
The Best Method (Ripens Overnight)
This method ripens avocados in 12-24 hours, and it's so simple.
- Put the hard avocado in a brown paper bag.
- Add a banana or an apple to the bag.
- Fold the top of the bag closed.
- Leave it on the counter overnight.
Bananas and apples release ethylene gas, which speeds up the ripening process. The paper bag traps the gas around the avocado.
Method for When You Need It Right Now
If you need a ripe avocado in 10 minutes, this method works in a pinch.
- Wrap the avocado in aluminum foil.
- Bake it in the oven at 200°F for 10 minutes.
- Check if it's soft. If not, bake it for another 5 minutes.
- Let it cool in the fridge for 10 minutes before using.
Note: This method doesn't make the avocado taste as good as natural ripening, but it works if you're in a hurry.
What to Avoid
Never put an unripe avocado in the fridge. It will stop the ripening process, and the avocado will never ripen properly.
