How to Keep Bread from Getting Moldy (I Tested 5 Methods)
I love fresh bread, but it always gets moldy after just a few days. I used to throw away half a loaf of bread every week until I tested every method to keep bread fresh. In this guide, I'll show you the best way to keep bread from getting moldy for up to 2 weeks.
The Best Method (Works for 2 Weeks)
This method kept my bread fresh and mold-free for 2 full weeks. It's so simple.
- Wrap the bread tightly in aluminum foil.
- Store it in a cool, dry place, like a bread box or pantry.
The aluminum foil keeps air and moisture out, which prevents mold from growing.
For Sliced Bread
If you have sliced bread, this method works great too.
- Put the sliced bread back in its original plastic bag.
- Squeeze out as much air as possible before sealing the bag.
- Store it in a bread box or pantry.
What to Avoid
Never store bread in the fridge. The cold temperature makes the bread go stale much faster, even if it doesn't get moldy. The only exception is if you live in a very hot, humid climate.
How to Freeze Bread
If you don't think you'll eat the bread within 2 weeks, freeze it.
- Wrap the bread tightly in plastic wrap, then in aluminum foil.
- Put it in a freezer bag and freeze it for up to 3 months.
- Thaw it at room temperature when you're ready to eat it.
