How to Turn On Dark Mode on iPhone 16 (And Schedule It)
Dark mode is one of the best features on the iPhone. It's easier on your eyes, especially at night, and it saves battery life on OLED screens like the one on iPhone 16. I have dark mode scheduled to turn on automatically at sunset, and it's been a game changer for my sleep.
Turn On Dark Mode Manually
This is the fastest way to turn on dark mode when you need it.
- Swipe down from the top right corner of your screen to open Control Center
- Touch and hold the brightness slider
- Tap the dark mode button in the bottom left corner
You can also turn on dark mode from Settings > Display & Brightness > Select "Dark".
Schedule Dark Mode to Turn On Automatically
This is the best option. You can have dark mode turn on at sunset and off at sunrise, or set a custom schedule.
- Open Settings > Display & Brightness
- Toggle on "Automatic"
- Tap "Options"
- Choose "Sunset to Sunrise" or "Custom Schedule"
I use the sunset to sunrise option. It's so nice to have my phone automatically switch to dark mode when it gets dark outside.

Pro Tip
Some apps have their own dark mode settings. If an app doesn't automatically switch to dark mode, check the app's settings to turn it on manually.
