How to Factory Reset iPhone 16 (Before Selling or Giving Away)
Factory resetting your iPhone is the most important thing to do before selling it or giving it away. It deletes all your personal data, including photos, messages, and apps, so the next owner can't access your information. I've sold 3 iPhones, and I always follow these steps to make sure everything is deleted properly.
Before You Factory Reset
Make sure to back up your iPhone first! You don't want to lose all your photos and data.
- Open Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud
- Tap "iCloud Backup"
- Tap "Back Up Now"
- Wait for the backup to complete
You should also sign out of iCloud and Find My iPhone.
- Open Settings > [Your Name]
- Scroll down and tap "Sign Out"
- Enter your Apple ID password
- Tap "Sign Out" in the top right corner
- Tap "Sign Out" again to confirm
How to Factory Reset iPhone 16
- Open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone
- Tap "Erase All Content and Settings"
- Tap "Continue"
- Enter your passcode if prompted
- Tap "Erase iPhone"
- Tap "Erase iPhone" again to confirm
Your iPhone will restart and erase all data. This process takes about 10-15 minutes.
What to Do After Factory Reset
Once your iPhone has been factory reset, it will show the setup screen. You can turn it off and give it to the new owner. They will be able to set it up as a new phone.
Pro Tip
If you're selling your iPhone, make sure to remove the SIM card and any accessories that aren't included in the sale.
