How to Clean a Ceiling Fan (Without Making a Mess)
Ceiling fans collect a lot of dust, and cleaning them can be a messy job. I used to make a huge mess every time I cleaned my ceiling fan, with dust falling all over the floor and furniture. But then I found this simple trick that keeps all the dust contained.
What You'll Need
- An old pillowcase
- A step ladder
- Warm soapy water
- A microfiber cloth
Step-by-Step Guide
- Turn off the ceiling fan and let it come to a complete stop.
- Climb the step ladder and slide the old pillowcase over one of the fan blades.
- Grip the blade through the pillowcase and pull the pillowcase off. All the dust will be trapped inside the pillowcase!
- Repeat for all the fan blades.
- Once all the dust is removed, wipe the blades with a damp microfiber cloth to remove any remaining dirt.
- Take the pillowcase outside and shake out the dust, then wash it in the washing machine.
Pro Tip
Clean your ceiling fan once a month to prevent dust from building up. It's much easier to clean a little bit of dust every month than a thick layer of dust once a year.
What to Avoid
Never use a vacuum cleaner to clean ceiling fan blades. The suction can bend the blades and make the fan wobble.
