How to Clean an Oven (No Harsh Chemicals)

Cleaning the oven is one of the most dreaded household chores. Store-bought oven cleaners are full of toxic chemicals and have a terrible smell. But then I found this natural method that cleans the oven just as well without any harsh chemicals. In this guide, I'll show you how to clean an oven using just baking soda and vinegar.

What You'll Need

  • Baking soda
  • Water
  • White vinegar
  • A spray bottle
  • A plastic spatula
  • A damp cloth

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Remove the oven racks and set them aside.
  2. Make a paste with baking soda and a little bit of water.
  3. Spread the paste all over the inside of the oven, avoiding the heating elements.
  4. Let it sit overnight.
  5. The next day, spray white vinegar all over the baking soda paste. You'll see a fizzing reaction.
  6. Let it sit for 30 minutes.
  7. Use the plastic spatula to scrape off the loosened grime.
  8. Wipe the inside of the oven with a damp cloth until it's clean.
  9. Clean the oven racks with warm soapy water.

For Really Tough Grease

If you have really tough grease that won't come off, you can add a little bit of dish soap to the baking soda paste.

Pro Tip

To keep your oven clean longer, line the bottom of the oven with aluminum foil to catch spills. Just replace the foil every few months.
