How to Keep Bananas from Turning Brown (I Tested 6 Methods)
I love bananas, but they turn brown so fast! I used to throw away half a bunch of bananas every week because they would go bad before I could eat them. I tested 6 different methods to keep bananas fresh, and one worked way better than all the others. In this guide, I'll show you the best way to keep bananas from turning brown.
The Best Method (Works for 2 Weeks)
This method kept my bananas fresh and yellow for almost 2 weeks! It's so simple.
- Separate the bananas from the bunch.
- Wrap the stem of each banana tightly with plastic wrap.
That's it! The plastic wrap traps the ethylene gas that bananas produce, which slows down the ripening process.
Methods That Did NOT Work
I tried all of these methods, and they didn't work nearly as well as wrapping the stems: - Putting bananas in the fridge (they turned black on the outside) - Hanging bananas on a banana hanger - Putting bananas in a paper bag - Spraying bananas with lemon juice - Putting bananas in the freezer
Pro Tip
If your bananas do turn brown, don't throw them away! They're perfect for making banana bread, smoothies, or banana pancakes.
