How to Make Coffee Without a Coffee Maker (5 Easy Methods)
My coffee maker broke last week, and I panicked. I can't start my day without coffee, and I didn't want to run to the coffee shop every morning. I tried 5 different methods to make coffee without a coffee maker, and some of them made coffee that tasted just as good as my regular machine. In this guide, I'll show you the easiest methods.
Method 1: The Cowboy Method (Most Reliable)
This is the method I use when my coffee maker is broken. It's simple, and it makes a great cup of coffee.
- Fill a small pot with 1 cup of water and bring it to a boil.
- Add 2 tablespoons of coarsely ground coffee to the boiling water.
- Stir once, then turn off the heat and cover the pot.
- Let it sit for 4-5 minutes.
- Pour the coffee slowly into a mug, leaving the coffee grounds at the bottom of the pot.
Method 2: The French Press Hack (With a Mason Jar)
If you have a mason jar and a fine mesh strainer, this method works great.
- Add 2 tablespoons of coarsely ground coffee to a mason jar.
- Pour 1 cup of hot (not boiling) water over the coffee grounds.
- Stir once, then put the lid on the jar and let it sit for 4 minutes.
- Pour the coffee through a fine mesh strainer into a mug to catch the grounds.
What to Avoid
Never use finely ground coffee for these methods. It will make your coffee taste bitter and gritty. Always use coarsely ground coffee.
