Resident Evil 9: Requiem has completely taken over gaming discussions online. If you’re in any gaming WeChat groups, you’ve seen this title everywhere. Launched in late February, it’s available for Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and PC.
PC players beat the game as early as last week. I ordered the PS5 physical disc via direct shipping from Hong Kong and only received it over the weekend. At first glance, I thought it was the Japanese edition due to the Biohazard cover and Japanese text on the back, but the spine reveals it’s the Hong Kong version.
PS5 Pro & PSSR 2.0 Performance
If you’re playing on PS5 Pro, you’re in for a treat. Sony’s upcoming PSSR 2.0 update is already pre-integrated into Resident Evil 9 Requiem, giving Pro players early access to this major console upgrade.
- With ray tracing ON: 4K 60fps
- With ray tracing OFF: 4K 120fps
The PS5’s haptic feedback and controller audio are incredibly immersive — even soft rain sounds come through the controller. Critics have called PS5 Pro the best platform for this game. A fan tip: Turning off ray tracing can cause odd visual glitches with the character Grace.
Switch 2 Version: Excellent Optimization & Portable Play
The Switch 2 version is another big reason for the game’s universal acclaim. Although the physical Switch 2 release uses a download key, Digital Foundry’s technical review confirms the Switch 2 port is nearly on par with the PC version, delivering stable 1080p gameplay. Coupled with the Switch 2’s portable hybrid design, this version is highly recommended.
Gameplay & Controls
- Grace: Recommended first-person perspective for maximum horror immersion
- Leon: Recommended third-person perspective for fast, satisfying combat Even in third-person, the sharp visuals and 3D audio keep the tension high — especially for new players.
Fans of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 will love this entry.
Release Status & Pricing
Resident Evil 9 Requiem is a lock for a TGA Game of the Year nomination at this rate. The only downside: Stock shortages across Switch 2 and PS5 have driven prices sky-high. My pre-ordered PS5 physical copy cost under $400; now it’s listed for over $600 on Taobao. If you can wait, hold off for prices to stabilize.
