Right now, two games are dominating the gaming space: Resident Evil 9 and Pokémon Pokopia. Both are Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives and do not run on the original Switch. Today we break down Pokémon Pokopia to help you decide whether to buy it — or even buy a Switch 2 for this title.
Basic Info
Pokémon Pokopia is a Switch 2 exclusive life-simulation game.
- Physical price (PDD subsidy): ~$52
- Digital price: ~$55
- Developed by Game Freak + the Dragon Quest Builders 2 team
- Main story length: 40–50 hours
Core Gameplay
The core loop: Build habitats → Attract Pokémon → Unlock new abilities → Open new areas. Each Pokémon has unique habitat needs: Charmander prefers dry, fiery areas; Squirtle needs water sources. You learn moves from Pokémon to reshape the world.
Building Mode
It uses a Minecraft-style block system for breaking, collecting, crafting and building. For casual players, a pre-built kit system provides ready-made designs to skip complex construction. Caught Pokémon will play, socialize and react to objects around them.
Multiplayer
- Local & online multiplayer: up to 4 players
- Screen sharing with original Switch supported (but not recommended)
- Cloud offline multiplayer: visit friends’ islands even when they’re offline
- Requires Nintendo Switch Online membership
Visual Performance
On Nintendo Switch 2, Pokémon Pokopia runs at a steady 60fps with bright, vivid visuals. It uses all-new cute-style Pokémon models, different from Scarlet & Violet.
Game Content
- 4 large main regions
- Over 300 Pokémon to collect
- 100+ hours of total playtime
- Time-gated quests (like Animal Crossing)
- Late-game unlocks: farming, mining and more
Who Should Play?
If you love Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, Pokémon and creative building with a cozy vibe, Pokémon Pokopia is a must-play exclusive for your Nintendo Switch 2.
