How to Block a Number on iPhone 16 (And Unblock Them Later)

Getting spam calls and texts is the worst. I used to get at least 3 spam calls a day until I learned how to block numbers on my iPhone. Blocking a number on iPhone 16 is super easy, and it only takes a few seconds. In this guide, I'll show you how to block numbers from calls, texts, and voicemails.


Block a Number from Recent Calls


This is the fastest way to block a number that just called you.

  1. Open the Phone app
  2. Tap "Recents"
  3. Tap the "i" icon next to the number you want to block
  4. Scroll down and tap "Block this Caller"
  5. Tap "Block Contact" to confirm

Block a Number from Messages

If someone is sending you annoying texts, you can block them directly from the Messages app.

  1. Open the Messages app
  2. Open the conversation with the person you want to block
  3. Tap their name at the top of the screen
  4. Tap "Info"
  5. Scroll down and tap "Block this Caller"

How to Unblock a Number

If you accidentally block someone or change your mind, unblocking them is just as easy.

  1. Open Settings > Phone > Blocked Contacts
  2. Tap "Edit" in the top right corner
  3. Tap the red minus sign next to the number you want to unblock
  4. Tap "Unblock"

What Happens When You Block a Number

When you block a number, they can't call you, text you, or leave you a voicemail. They won't get a notification that they've been blocked, but their calls will always go straight to voicemail.
