How to Turn Off Location Services on iPhone 16 (And Save Battery)
Location services are great for maps and weather, but they can also drain your battery and track your every move. I turn off location services for most apps on my iPhone, and my battery lasts 2-3 hours longer every day. In this guide, I'll show you how to turn off location services completely or for specific apps.
Turn Off Location Services Completely
This will turn off location for all apps on your iPhone. Only do this if you don't use maps or any other location-based apps.
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security
- Tap "Location Services"
- Toggle off "Location Services"
- Tap "Turn Off" to confirm
Turn Off Location for Specific Apps (Recommended)
This is the best option. You can keep location on for apps that need it, like Maps and Weather, and turn it off for everything else.
- Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services
- Scroll down to see a list of all your apps
- Tap on an app
- Select "Never" to turn off location for that app
I have location turned off for social media apps, games, and shopping apps. None of these need to know where I am!
Apps That Should Always Have Location Access
- Maps and navigation apps
- Weather apps
- Find My iPhone
- Ride-sharing apps like Uber
Pro Tip
You can also set apps to only use location while you're using them. This is a good middle ground between always on and never.
