How to Turn Off Auto Brightness on iPhone 16 (And Why You Might Want To)
Auto brightness is supposed to make your life easier by adjusting your screen brightness based on the light around you. But half the time it doesn't work right. It's either too bright in a dark room or too dim outside. If you're tired of fighting with auto brightness, here's how to turn it off on iPhone 16.
How to Turn Off Auto Brightness
Apple hid the auto brightness setting in Accessibility for some reason. It took me forever to find it the first time!
- Open Settings > Accessibility
- Tap "Display & Text Size"
- Scroll all the way to the bottom
- Toggle off "Auto-Brightness"
How to Adjust Brightness Manually
Once you turn off auto brightness, you can adjust the brightness yourself whenever you want.
- Swipe down from the top right corner of your screen to open Control Center
- Drag the brightness slider up or down to adjust the brightness
Why I Turned Off Auto Brightness
I turned off auto brightness for two main reasons: 1. It saves battery. I keep my brightness at around 50% most of the time, and my battery lasts much longer. 2. It's more comfortable. I hate when my screen suddenly gets bright or dim for no reason.
When You Should Keep Auto Brightness On
If you spend a lot of time outside, auto brightness can be helpful. It will make your screen brighter in direct sunlight so you can see it better.
Pro Tip
You can also turn on Night Shift to reduce blue light at night. This will help you sleep better. You can find Night Shift in Settings > Display & Brightness.
